The Roman soldier had several armaments like dagger (pugio), spears (pilum) and a sword (gladius). The Gladius or Roman sword, was the beloved weapon of the Roman legionaries. This Gladius combined with expert military tactics has certainly carved it’s way as a fearsome and respected weapon. This Roman sword was most effectively used in formation behind the protection of a Roman shield wall.
